Plant Description
Tillandsia ionantha, commonly known as the Air Plant, is a small evergreen plant belonging to the Bromeliaceae (pineapple) family. Native to Mexico and Central America, it is an epiphytic plant, meaning it naturally grows on trees, rocks, and other surfaces without taking nutrients from them. Unlike most plants, it does not require soil. Instead, it absorbs water and nutrients through specialized scales on its leaves called trichomes. It usually grows 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) tall and forms a compact rosette of silvery-green leaves that turn bright red or pink before producing beautiful violet-purple flowers.
